The Implications and Consequences of Employing Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Practice: An Integrative Review
摘要
This paper reviews the possible implications as well as the repercussions of incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into nursing practice. These issues are next considered from the perspective of efficiency and productivity, decision making and patient outcomes, nursing roles and professional identity and ethical and legal considerations, training and education. An analysis is provided that proves AI is able to improve nursing practice by automatically doing non–clinical work, improving the practice of making decision making and by making workflow more efficient. But concerns of data confidentiality, ethical considerations and adequate training for the nursing practitioners need to be resolved. The paper stresses the need to implement uniform AI education and training programs to nurses while fostering inter professional collaboration. The ethical and legal issues are of utmost importance such as artificial intelligence algorithm biases in the carrying of the process and patient autonomy. Future work will be on curricula, patient outcomes, improvements in AI algorithms, healthcare disparity and professional collaboration. Preliminary research initiatives need to be taken while educating the public on concepts of ethical considerations should also be implemented along with committees that focus on ethical issues should be formed and precise job requirements for nursing should be in place. They are notable strengths because of the review's integrative approach and comprehensive analysis. However, it has the limitations of publication bias and differences of research contexts. Finally, this review contributes enough perspectives about implications of AI in nursing and proposes further avenues for research and practice development.
