Beyond the Mask: Frontline Realities of Risk, Practice, and Misinformation in the COVID-19 Era
摘要
This study assesses factors influencing healthcare professionals’ safe practices, including perceived risks and benefits, misinformation, and clinical practices among 187 healthcare workers from various Jordanian hospitals currently providing care to patients infected with COVID-19. The online questionnaire addressed perceived risks and benefits, misinformation, and practices, using guidelines endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All participants were actively providing care to COVID-19 patients during data collection. Recruitment and survey completion were conducted entirely online via email and WhatsApp. Frontline workers exhibited uncertainty regarding the nature of the virus. Gaps were identified in healthcare workers’ knowledge of the virus’s virulence, biological characteristics, personal safety measures, and strategies for preventing cross-infection. Deficiencies in skills and practices were also noted, which may impact overall safety practices. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive training and education for frontline workers before they care for COVID-19 patients. Greater efforts are required to ensure these objectives are met.
