The Role of Mentorship in Nurturing My Success in Academia
摘要
Positive mentoring relationships are critical for academic success. These relationships provide knowledge, guidance, and insight across the academic continuum. In this autobiographical chapter, I reflect on my personal story of mentorship. Through a chronological narrative, I explain how mentorship has helped me survive and thrive as a Black woman in academia. I begin by situating readers within my present-day position as a postdoctoral fellow, using anecdotal examples to reflect my growth over time. Then, I discuss the early mentorship that shaped my career trajectory and research program. From there, the chapter highlights my various mentors and how they sustained me through the various successes and challenges I have encountered, concluding with my commitment to pay forward by mentoring the next generation of scholars.
