The chapter starts by defining spherical and affine root systems. Next, the notion of BN-pair and of the associated building are presented and applied to groups of p-adic type, including an axiomatic description of the affine building. The additional section introduces affine Hecke algebras, a simplicial approach of buildings, Moy–Prasad filtrations, and applications to the representation theory of groups of p-adic type.
