What is a virus? Most of you probably associate the word ‘virus’ with either a nasty human disease-causing ‘bug’ (e.g., Influenza) or malware ‘infecting’ (i.e., affecting) your computer. Both are real and harmful, but neither will be of importance for this story. Instead, emphasis will be placed on unusual properties of plant-infecting viruses, and how these have also benefited rather than always harmed society and science.
