Offences, Punishments and Escapes
摘要
So far we have seen that the Allied prisoners were mostly aware of the rights that this status conferred on them, as well as the duties they had to fulfil as war prisoners in enemy hands. Perhaps the main duty was the need to harm one’s captor in any way possible; the latter, in turn, was entitled to punish the prisoner, obviously within certain boundaries and according to the rules of the Geneva Convention. The level, type and ‘intensity’ of the punishment are useful measures for assessing the degree of compliance with international standards and, therefore, the overall quality of the prison experience.
