Feeding and Nutritional Management of Dairy Farming in Africa
摘要
Dairy farming plays a vital role in African agricultural countries, significantly contributing to food security, livelihoods, and rural economies. However, the sector faces challenges in feeding and nutritional management due to resource constraints, climate variability, and inadequate access to quality feed. Effective feeding strategies are crucial for improving productivity, animal health, and profitability. In Africa, dairy livestock primarily relies on natural pastures, crop residues, and agro-industrial by-products, which often lack the balanced nutrients required for optimal milk production. Seasonal fluctuations in feed availability exacerbate the problem, leading to poor animal condition and reduced yields during dry seasons. Nutritional management practices, including the use of supplementary concentrates, mineral licks, and water provision, are essential to address deficiencies. Promoting balanced rations tailored to local resources, combined with farmer training, can optimize feed utilization and productivity.
