Living heritage is characterized by the continuous transmission of practices within communities or family groups that keep ancient and traditional knowledge alive and deeply rooted in the identity and values of the community. The community plays a crucial role in maintaining and adapting these traditions in constantly changing environments, reflecting and preserving the cultural expressions in places. Living heritage contributes to sustainable development and promotes economic, social, and environmental sustainability by supporting traditional knowledge and skills often aligned with sustainable practices. Preserving living heritage involves supporting communities in their efforts to keep these practices alive, ensuring that they can continue to pass on their cultural expressions to future generations. In this context, this study aims to enhance perceptions of living heritage by taking the traditional crafts in the Porto District, Portugal, as a case, using a qualitative methodology. The main goals were to confirm the vulnerability of traditional crafts leading to the loss of historical knowledge and to understand the value of this heritage to communities and visitors. Artisans using ancient woodworking techniques were consulted to address these objectives. To strengthen the thoroughness of the qualitative research, a systematic categorization approach was utilized.
