Major Challenges and the Way Forward in Artificial Intelligence Integration in Healthcare
摘要
Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare unfolds immense opportunities. AI is a decision-making technology that offers noteworthy benefits such as personalized medication, which enhances treatment efficiency and refinement. This chapter emphasizes the components, roles, and applications of AI in the medical sector, how this system can be designed for long-term utilization through ongoing enhancement and public health surveillance. There are several possible approaches to the problems, including expanding the current regulations for implementing AI systems, identifying regulatory gaps that make room for innovation, strengthening AI transparency, generating stronger algorithms for AI, and recruiting specialists in the field of AI. The true difficulty, however, arises when we consider applying it in a real-life setting. To achieve maximal outcome, several potential obstacles must be addressed. The principal challenges to adopt AI in the medical sector, including difficulties with current laws and regulations, security and confidentiality of patient data, increased costs and resource management due to AI implementation. Hence, possible questions arise such as, who will be held accountable if AI delivers patients with inappropriate or misguiding solutions? Building trust in AI systems is crucial, and this requires validation, transparency, and a user-friendly approach. Furthermore, the current healthcare worker must receive instructions on how to navigate and adapt the framework to suit the duties at hand.
