This case study examines the shoreline development of an artificial pocket beach constructed in 2014–2015 enclosed by shore-perpendicular coastal structures in the region of Constanta (Tomis South), Romania. The evolution of the coastline is simulated using the numerical model ShorelineS [1]. Measurements are used to calibrate the model and improve its performance. Particular focus is given on the implementation of (shallow water) wave sheltering (wave diffraction) in the vicinity of coastal structures and proper inclusion in the nearshore sediment transport and consequent shoreline development. The computed shoreline and beach width using the calibrated settings accurately reproduce field measurements and satellite data. The updated model maintains high performance across adjacent beach cells in the project area.

摘要
