Noise Pollution at Westport Port Klang, Malaysia: Effect on Human Health

Westport, Port Klang, serves as an outstanding example of an industrial center that is seeing significant expansion in the fields of maritime and commerce operations. The economic growth in the region has undeniably contributed to prosperity, but it has also resulted in an unforeseen outcome: an increase in levels of noise pollution. Noise pollution, which refers to the existence of excessive or disruptive noise that disrupts the natural sound environment, has become a widespread concern in several urban and industrial areas, such as Westport and Port Klang. The main objective of this study is to identify the sources of noise pollution and evaluate its effects on human health in the port area. Employing a questionnaire-based approach, the study engaged 88 respondents, encompassing workers from the operations department at Westport. Statistical methods were used to perform the process of data analysis, specifically employing Means analysis. With an average mean score of 3.74, the results identify the transportation of goods as the primary factor contributing to noise pollution. Furthermore, the study revealed that the harmful impacts of noise pollution on workers’ attention and communication received the highest mean score of 3.83. This research successfully identified the causes of noise pollution, providing insight into its adverse impact on the health and welfare of workers in Westport and Port Klang.
