The Impact of AI Integration in Dating Apps on User Trust

In this research, the effect of AI implementation in dating applications on trust among users is investigated by conducting a structured literature review. Trust is a vital aspect for the success and acceptance of dating apps, therefore this problem is particularly significant as AI brings both benefits and issues to the table. Major results indicate that AI promotes trust through improved matching algorithms, user safety and information verification while simultaneously challenging data privacy, algorithmic transparency and biases. These findings are in line with prior work on trust for general IS applications and extends this understanding to dating applications. This has important implications for research and practice, pointing towards the necessity of providing further empirical validation in relation to trust issues, investigating new dimensions of trustworthiness (that appeals to transparency) as well as designing more transparent and user-friendly dating applications. Therefore, further research is needed across cultures, generations and regions to mitigate the limitations pointed out. The knowledge from this research can be used by service providers to create user centric and reliable dating applications.
