Climate Change, Labour, and Migration: Developing Innovative and Holistic Responses to Environmental Disturbances
摘要
Climate change–driven sea level rise and land subsidence have had a tremendous impact on the livelihoods of coastal communities in the northern coastal areas of Java. These impacts include forced labour and displacement, compelling coastal residents to shift livelihoods, face unemployment, or work in informal sectors. In addition, many people have become internally displaced as a result of the loss of land and property. This chapter summarizes the findings of the preceding sections. It highlights that the response must be innovative and holistic, as there is no single solution that fits all contexts. Adaptive legal and policy frameworks, interdisciplinary approaches, gender-responsive climate action, human rights, and social justice are emphasized throughout this book and should serve as guidance for policymakers.
