Family Poverty and Dignity. The Question of Conditional Social Benefits
摘要
In this chapter, I discuss the human dignity of children and families and how it is violated by poverty. Poverty is degrading to children and families and should therefore be effectively addressed by the welfare state. After discussing the difficulties of applying the concept of human dignity to children and the social unit of the family, I present three models for alleviating child and family poverty and protecting the material basis of human dignity for all involved: child support; parental salary; family support. Finally, I will explore the question of what argues for and against making these family benefits conditional.
