Investigation of Uncertainty in Pressure Coefficients for Low-Rise Buildings with Flat Roofs
摘要
When assessing wind actionsWind action on structures, oneUncertainty ofPressure coefficients the main sources of uncertaintyUncertainty arises from the modelling of aerodynamic interaction, which is quantified in the wind actionWind action model through the aerodynamic coefficientsAerodynamic coefficients. In order to exemplify this statement, this paper investigates uncertaintyUncertainty in the pressure coefficientsPressure coefficients for low-rise buildings with flat roofs. With reference to the loading zones of Eurocode 1 Part 1–4 and based on available experimental data, variability of the pressure coefficientsPressure coefficients is first investigated. Then, a comparison with the values proposed in Eurocode 1 is made and a model for uncertaintyUncertainty in pressure coefficientPressure coefficients is proposed. Finally, propagation of uncertaintyUncertainty to wind actionWind action effects is investigated. Overall, values of bias larger than one are found, suggesting that most of pressure coefficientsPressure coefficients adopted by Eurocode 1 as well as the associated wind actionWind action effects are on the unsafe side. Values of the coefficient of variation between 7.4 and 40.7% are also observed.
