Digital Culture and 3D Visualization: The Ancient Port of Aegina

Nowadays, the development of information technology at a global level has offered possibilities to the general public, which were previously almost unimaginable. The benefits and services have increased to the fullest and the experiences of users have multiplied and, above all, have reached a point not only satisfactory but also extremely interesting and desirable, making the unknown to most area of information technology accessible and easy to use. An important aspect of this development is the approach and depiction of the real world with electronic means in all three dimensions, creating environments that are more alive and more realistic for the user. A very important use of this technology is in environments that are difficult to access, that provide an experience and in this case that bring elements of the past, which are no longer visible and existent, to the viewer. This paper was prepared in the framework of the postgraduate programme “Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies” and concerns the 3D visualization of the ancient port of Aegina during the classical times.
