Although the adoption of new technologies for heritage documentation in Iran has occurred later and has been more limited than in the Global North, institutions and professionals in Iran are now utilizing these advancements. However, the application of modern techniques often remains confined to merely serving as archives of information, without extending their role further. The primary challenge in effectively utilizing these tools lies not in the techniques employed or the quality of the resulting data, but rather in the analysis and practical application of this information. In an era dominated by technological advancements, the lifespan of technical tools is exceptionally short, leaving little time to thoroughly explore the intricacies of each. Consequently, this article aims to examine the work of Iranian professionals in the field of documentation and highlight the challenges they face in employing new technologies. To achieve this, the article first adopts a qualitative approach by engaging with professionals to investigate their challenges in data analysis. It then combines technologies such as laser scanning and photogrammetry with artificial intelligence (AI) to propose solutions that could facilitate the swift analysis of their data and enhance its application in the practical renovation of heritage in Iran.
