A general classification of methods of laser surface engineering and a brief overview of the basics of each method are provided: annealing, tempering, laser quenching, laser thermo-strain hardening, laser forming, liquid phase laser quenching, amorphization, changing the optical characteristics, laser shock hardening, surface roughness improvement, laser thermal cycling, laser thermochemical treatment, laser ion implantation, laser surface alloying, laser surfacing, laser sintering, laser thermal deformation sintering, laser-plasms surfacing, laser brazing, laser spraying. An algorithm is proposed for determining the technological parameters of laser irradiation depending on the required characteristics of the surface layer, taking into account the conditions of interaction and the characteristics of the part.
