The Urban Gardening Movement
摘要
The future of global food production is full of obstacles. Global agriculture is under strain due to factors such growing urbanization, dwindling arable land, weather extremes brought on by environmental change, and a projected 9.6 billion people on Earth by 2050. Although more than 60% of the world’s population already resides in cities, that percentage will increase to 70% by 2030. It’s also important to consider global emissions. Currently, 20–30% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide are caused by agriculture. Relocating food production to areas with strong demand lowers emissions and slows down global warming. Hence, the current book chapter highlights the importance of urban gardening and its impact on local food system and community health. It also provides practical advice on home gardening, container gardening, skyfarming and permaculture as a strategic pathway to mitigate hunger and food crisis in cities.
