Neutron Generators: From Logical Assumptions to totally different behavior
摘要
Two kinds of tabletop neutron generators, D-D and D-T, were used for thermal and for fast neutron imaging, both at a confidential facility that did not want to be named, and at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The first setup with water and polyethylene shielding close to the neutron beam produced unexpected effects by fast neutron scattering and gamma generation in the channel walls that made many images unusable, while a tabletop setup at CTU without any shielding close to the generators produced better, but still insufficient results for nondestructive testing.
