In this chapter, I consider Alfred Wallace’s involvement in spiritualism as well as looking at Eleanor Sidgwick and spiritualism’s relationship to scientists such as William Crookes. I also discuss mediumistic performance. The chapter ends in a discussion of mediumistic theatre and the idea of ‘losing one’s soul’ as exemplified in Patrick Hamilton’s novel Hangover Square.
