Measuring Quality of Life in Mexico: Recent History and Evolution
摘要
This chapter offers an overview of the conceptual and methodological evolution of quality of life (QoL) and well-being measurement in Mexico. Building on the Latin American tradition that recognises the multidimensional and relational nature of QoL, it traces the transition from economic and social indicators towards subjective and experiential measures of well-being. The chapter contextualises the Mexican case within broader regional and global discussions on post-GDP paradigms of social progress, emphasising the need for indicators that integrate cultural, affective and community dimensions. It reviews the main national and international surveys, academic contributions and policy frameworks that have shaped QoL research in Mexico, highlighting both achievements and persistent gaps. Finally, it describes the sections and chapters of the book.
