The fourth chapter provides an analysis of environmental think tanks in Germany. The analytical approach combines an analysis at the organizational level (mix of different types of think tanks) their embeddedness in the German knowledge regime (social network analysis) and their respective publication output (typology of ideas | bibliometric analysis). It will outline the German knowledge regime as “closed shop” that favours a small group of academic think tanks with close ties to administrative bodies and public universities.
