Digital Prowess: Senior High School Students’ Preparedness for Higher Education Digital Demands
摘要
This study examined Senior high school students’ digital literacy and ICT competence to determine their preparedness for higher education’s digital demands. The study used a descriptive correlational research design and regression analysis. Participants were 122 Grade 11 and 12 students from Lourdes Alubijid National High School in Misamis Oriental, Philippines. Using simple random sampling, 61 students from each grade were selected as research participants. The research was conducted in a remote school location with limited digital access. The findings revealed that students demonstrated competence in basic digital tool use but showed less proficiency in advanced software, file management, and online collaboration. While competent in basic application use, they were less skilled in data analysis. Findings revealed their preparedness for higher education’s digital demands to be neutral. Their competence in digital tools, basic computer skills, internet navigation, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace skills significantly predicted their preparedness. The study concludes that students possess foundational digital skills. However, they must develop advanced skills to enhance their readiness for higher education. These findings highlight the need for schools and education policymakers to implement targeted digital literacy programs beyond the basics. These programs should include higher-level digital competencies to better prepare students for the demands of college-level work. Improving students’ advanced ICT skills directly enhances their readiness for college.
