Evaluation of Social and Environmental Criteria of Atrium Design at Shopping Mall in Tropical Climate Based on Users’ Perception
摘要
Atrium is widely applied especially in a building that has deep layout plan as it provides many environmental benefits. Nevertheless, there is still a dearth of atrium criteria evaluation based on the perspective of the users in relation to the social and environmental aspects. Hence, this study was conducted to identify the importance scale of social and environmental criteria of atrium design at shopping mall based on user’s perception. The methodology used in this study is a questionnaire survey. The social and environmental criteria listed in the survey form were derived from the literature review. The results indicated that easy accessibility and high visibility of atrium from other spaces, strategic locations of escalators and sky bridge, as well as its function as main activity centre are very essential for the social criteria. Meanwhile, for the environmental criteria, majority respondents agreed that the atrium location, design, and finishing materials were very significant in influencing the daylighting, natural ventilation and air temperature of the atrium. This study provides awareness and guides regarding to the criteria to be considered based on the users’ experience when integrating an atrium in a shopping mall.
