Research on the Evolution of Roof Decoration Components in Chinese and Japanese Architectural Heritages
摘要
This paper employs an architectural archaeology typological research method to analyze the shape characteristics and illustrate the temporal distribution of the ridge tile components in Chinese architectural heritage and the ghost face tile components in Japanese architectural heritage. By examining the differences in the installation methods of Chinese ridge tiles and Japanese ghost face tiles, this study uncovers the reasons behind the distinct shapes of these two tile types. Through the analysis of the temporal distribution and the contrasting shapes of the ridge tiles and ghost face tiles, it is demonstrated that the transmission path of the Sino-Japanese architectural system during Japan’s Asuka period originated from the Northern Dynasties of China, passing through Goguryeo before reaching Asuka in Japan.
