Lecture 18. Charge Screening in Metals in the Random Phase Approximation
摘要
We consider charge screening in metals in the random phase approximation (RPA) and derive the plasmon spectrum in metal. We discuss an emergence of acoustic plasmonPlasmonacoustic plasmon (Pines demon) in the two-band metal. We introduce important notations of Thomas–Fermi wave vectorThomas-FermiThomas–Fermi wave vector and Debye radiusDebyeDebye radius which define the static screening of the trial charge in metal by electron plasma. We analyze the nature of the Kohn anomalyAnomalyKohn anomaly and Fridel oscillationsFriedel oscillations in the effective interactionInteractioneffective interaction related to the non-exponential screening in metals.
