Headache disorders are highly prevalent worldwide, affecting around 40% of the global population. They impose substantial health and economic burdens, ranking among the leading causes of neurological disability. Current research faces multiple challenges. These include inconsistent epidemiological data, insufficient subtype-specific studies, and lack of personalized treatments. Comorbidities, underdiagnosis in low and middle-income countries, and underexplored environmental factors also hinder progress. Future efforts should focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, research on special populations and development of novel pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies to address unmet needs.
