“Are We Going to Crash?”: The Effect of an AI Presence in User Experience During a VR Flight
摘要
This pilot study evaluated the impact of an AI-driven conversational agent on user experience during VR flight simulations under low and high turbulence. Thirty-two participants completed paired sessions with and without the agent. Self-reported engagement, immersion, and anxiety were measured via Likert scales and analyzed statistically. The AI agent yielded large gains in engagement (d = 1.05) and immersion (d = 0.76) and a moderate reduction in anxiety (d = –0.55). Participants rated its supportiveness highly (Cronbach’s \(\alpha \) = 0.93), and support scores correlated with both engagement and immersion. These preliminary findings suggest that conversational AI can enhance attentional and emotional outcomes in VR exposure therapies, underscoring its promise for fear-of-flying interventions.
