This study analyses an educational sequence designed to enhance Ocean Literacy and leadership in 8–12-year-old students from a school in São Vicente, Cabo Verde. The sequence consisted of four interactive sessions delivered over 1 week, culminating in a final session that engaged parents, teachers, other students, and participants from the Edinburgh Ocean Leaders Program. This process ultimately led to forming a group of young marine ambassadors. The sequence was developed by the local NGO Biosfera 1 with the support of an external marine education specialist. It was co-designed and tailored to align with the local context. The methodology incorporated science education tools and interactive strategies to increase Ocean knowledge, foster self-confidence, and develop leadership and communication skills. Each session was iteratively refined based on daily observations and participant feedback to address emerging needs and adapt to the students’ progress. Findings, based on the qualitative analysis of student feedback, game responses, participation levels, and video interviews show that the students’ confidence, group identity, and ability to communicate new knowledge about Ocean conservation improved. These results underscore the importance of integrating leadership and empowerment strategies within Ocean Literacy programs and offer replicable practices for broader application in similar contexts.
