This chapter introduces the section on adaptation, resilience, and transformation, which is built around the idea that education should address climate impacts as a present reality, helping communities survive and thrive under challenging conditions. What education does existing climate change make necessary? How should education respond now to the changes we are already living through? We briefly review the justification and definition of education for adaptation, resilience, and transformation work, then offer concrete examples from our home cities of Madison, Wisconsin (United States), and Ambon, Maluku (Indonesia). Finally, we introduce the four chapters that comprise the section and identify a few key themes.

摘要

This chapter introduces the section on adaptation, resilience, and transformation, which is built around the idea that education should address climate impacts as a present reality, helping communities survive and thrive under challenging conditions. What education does existing climate change make necessary? How should education respond now to the changes we are already living through? We briefly review the justification and definition of education for adaptation, resilience, and transformation work, then offer concrete examples from our home cities of Madison, Wisconsin (United States), and Ambon, Maluku (Indonesia). Finally, we introduce the four chapters that comprise the section and identify a few key themes.
