Understanding of the importance of the ocean is crucial to face climate change, however, research in education about the ocean as an aspect of climate education is still limited. This chapter highlights the need of equipping students and teachers with Ocean Literacy (OL) and critical thinking (CT) for climate change action. OL is presented as a potential framework that can be applied in socio-scientific instruction at different levels of education to empower learners to make responsible decisions on ocean sustainability and climate change. Two OL projects are described to show how OL principles and CT skills are enhanced in contexts linked to climate change in the era of misinformation.

摘要

Understanding of the importance of the ocean is crucial to face climate change, however, research in education about the ocean as an aspect of climate education is still limited. This chapter highlights the need of equipping students and teachers with Ocean Literacy (OL) and critical thinking (CT) for climate change action. OL is presented as a potential framework that can be applied in socio-scientific instruction at different levels of education to empower learners to make responsible decisions on ocean sustainability and climate change. Two OL projects are described to show how OL principles and CT skills are enhanced in contexts linked to climate change in the era of misinformation.
