Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) comprises a spectrum of premalignant and malignant disorders of placental trophoblasts. These diseases are important to recognise as they are now highly curable if managed appropriately. In this chapter, we will explore the epidemiology, aetiology, pathology, genetics and management of the various members of the GTD family, including the recently recognised new disease entity termed atypical placental site nodule. We will also examine the emerging role of immunotherapy in the treatment of the malignant forms of GTD.
