Conclusions
摘要
This book underscores the importance of nationalism as a socialization force, securitizing the centrality of identities in today’s international political environment. This chapter examines the idea that nationalism continues to impact world politics. The state is the physical, military, and territorial representation of the nation and nationalism. Given the changing international system, there is increased nationalist competition between competing states. Driving this is the revisionist search for prestige. China is challenging the United States over control of the South China Sea, seeking to annex Taiwan and the entire South China Sea, and unite all of what was historically China. Russia and the European Union are at odds over Ukraine’s land and the protection of Russian minorities in Ukraine. In the Middle East, nationalist conflicts continue over Israel. Also of great concern is the India–China confrontation over territorial control of Ladakh. This book’s conclusions discuss these potential changes by examining the contemporary international system’s conflicts between great powers.
