Beyond the SDGs: Degrowth as an Alternative
摘要
The COVID-19 pandemic revealed not only the scale of global challenges but also the profound inequalities and shortcomings in our collective response to crises of this magnitude. This situation calls for reflection on the functioning of the prevailing economic system: capitalism, which promotes unchecked growth, the use of fossil fuels, globalization, and the unsustainable exploitation of nature. This chapter explores how degrowth, as an alternative to the capitalist system, can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), seeking a comprehensive approach to balance environmental, social, and economic sustainability on the planet, improve quality of life, generate social welfare, establish more respectful relationships with nature, and foster harmony among nations. It thus underscores the need to rethink the current economic paradigm in search of more sustainable and equitable solutions.
