Factors in Youth Predicting Adult Cardiometabolic Risk: Tracking—Epidemiologic Evidence for Tracking of CV Risk Factors
摘要
Measurement of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) in children can be challenging, but this chapter provides a review of the literature of various cardiovascular risk factors and examines the relationship between risk factor levels in youth and how they track into adulthood. There is strong evidence that childhood BMI, blood pressure, lipids and lipoproteins and metabolic syndrome track from youth into adulthood. The correlation is stronger with clustering of risk factors. Similarly, dietary patterns and exercise tracks as well. There are many factors that influence tracking, including genetics, sex, puberty, pregnancy, race, and many social factors, including social determinants of health, psychosocial factors, adverse childhood experiences, and family lifestyle.
