摘要

The preceding chapters have detailed a fragmented research landscape where scientists are burdened by the friction of managing infrastructure, wrestling with data, and orchestrating complex workflows. To truly accelerate discovery, the apparatus of science itself must be reimagined. This chapter presents a vision of that future: the Intelligent Discovery Environment for Science (IDES). We envision the IDES as a new triple helix where three strands intertwine to create a seamless goal-oriented discovery ecosystem. An Invisible Computing Infrastructure abstracts the complexities of computing resource management, becoming an omnipresent, self-optimizing utility. A Federated Data Ecosystem transforms data silos into a network of high-quality, AI-ready “data products” governed by FAIR principles. Finally, an Integrated AI Service Layer enables the cognitive core of the system, populated by foundation models and autonomous agents. This architecture culminates in a new user experience where the scientist partners with an AI Research Colleague. This chapter details how this integrated environment could dissolve the barriers between idea and execution, finally shifting the paradigm from discovery by chance to design by intention.
