The Triple Helix of Data, Cloud Computing, and AI is Propelling a Transformation in the Life Sciences
摘要
Similar to the revolution in the computer vision field, the domain of life science is being transformed by a “triple helix” of synergistic forces. The surge of near-limitless computing power has moved beyond Moore’s Law and into the democratized realm of cloud supercomputing, making immense resources readily accessible to everyone. A deluge of high-definition, multimodal biological data is catalyzing a paradigm shift from traditional hypothesis-driven inquiry to rapid, data-driven discovery. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, from early machine learning to sophisticated generative models that are learning to speak the language of biology itself, from genomes to proteins. This powerful convergence is poised to tackle some of humanity’s greatest challenges in the most urgent areas, from pandemics preparedness, personalized healthcare, and sustainable bioeconomy. This chapter sets the stage by arguing that the intertwined strands of data, cloud, and AI are redefining the scientific discovery process.
