Heroes, Villains and the Textbook Sexist
摘要
This chapter examines the controversy surrounding the legitimacy of #MT in calling for sanctions and reparations for women in the Mexican context. It illustrates how debates that oversimplify the roles of actors within civil society undermine the development of a crucial democratic center. First, the chapter outlines the rise of #MT as a powerful civil movement in public opinion, highlighting a key incident involving a well-known rock musician who died by suicide after facing harassment allegations. The analysis then explores how #MT evaluated presidential legitimacy, particularly concerning the appointment of an individual with close ties to the president, who has been accused of harassment during their time as ambassador to Panama.
