Introduction
摘要
This chapter analyzes the relationship between the feminist movement, the disputes within public opinion, and the expressions of presidential power in the face of the mobilizations occurring in the 2020s in Mexico. To do so, we call upon the theory of the civil sphere to help demonstrate how these factors generated a powerful mobilization of public opinion to demand that the president recognize and address the wave of violence against women and femicide. By articulating the supposed demands of the “public” regarding violence against women, those who mobilized exercised their capacity for civil power. However, while a part of the public supported the demands to stop violence, the president declared that its main objective was to destabilize the government and tarnish the presidential investiture, a position supported by many with social power, along with a part of public opinion.
