This study aimed to establish priorities for advancing infrastructure improvements on the two-lane interurban road network to enhance road safety. For that purpose, the safety level of all road sections was evaluated using a Bayesian approach and a cost-effectiveness analysis applied to assess potential safety benefits from the implementation of four infrastructure measures, such as: upgrading to a dual-carriageway, setting a central barrier, adding rumble strips on centrelines and rumble strips on edge-lines of the roadway. The lists of high-priority sections that were produced by the study are associated with the highest potential accident savings, on the road network, stronger cost-effectiveness ratios and a geographic match of sections to enable consistent infrastructure changes along the roads. The priority lists outline a program of future activities on improving the safety level of two-lane roads on the national road network and thus may support a systematic work of the relevant authorities.

摘要
