Research of Strength of a Modernized Flat Wagon Structure for Long Cargo

The research examines the properties of determining stresses in a modified flat wagon structure designed to transport long cargo. The modified flat wagon is equipped with walls, which have a frame-type side. They are mounted in stanchion pockets and welded to the wagon frame. A profile of the side wall was determined based on its cross-sectional moment of resistance. These calculations were performed in a specialized computational programme named LIRA CAD. The stresses in the modified load-bearing structure of a flat wagon were investigated by means of the FE method. The main limitation of this model was the fact that it does not consider the welded joints of its individual components. The achieved results of the performed research have led to the conclusion that the efficiency of the suggested modification of the structure of a flat wagon is preserved. The efforts made for the research will result in the application of universal flat wagons to the practical operation within the transportation of long -length cargoes by railways.
