Workplace Safety in Psychiatric Training Environments: Overview and Best Practices
摘要
Workplace safety is a crucial aspect of any training program and should be implemented in a way that helps protect and support residents if they encounter violence perpetrated by a patient. Training on de-escalation techniques and violence prevention is critical, as is a reliable reporting system that trainees feel comfortable using. Identification of patients who are at high risk of violent acts should be taught as a part of training in addition to the use of relevant rating scales. It is also important to be aware of new and changing laws focused on violence toward healthcare workers. There are considerations for managing agitated patients in different treatment settings and in special patient populations, which are discussed in detail in this chapter.
