Interprofessional Education and Teamwork
摘要
Managing a psychiatry graduate medical education (GME) program in the twenty-first century demands the involvement of resident or fellow learners, faculty members, and others across many different professions. Interprofessional education and teams require shared or common goals, education/training, experience, feedback over time, and processes for improvement. The interprofessional team—sometimes known as a multidisciplinary team—plays a key role in clinical care, education, and administrative workflows. This rich and valuable collaboration creates both opportunities and challenges for faculty, program directors, and other departmental leaders. In working with learners and professionals from other professions, psychiatry residents and fellows benefit from opportunities to learn alongside other learners, practitioners, and leaders, which help them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge that inform work going forward. Such learning must be designed and taught explicitly and deliberately; however, time and experience are essential to develop residents’ and fellows’ roles and identities as psychiatrists. This chapter is a practical guide that introduces interprofessional education and interprofessional team functioning, gives examples of common approaches, and highlights some of the opportunities and challenges.
