The focus of this chapter is on the application of various GIS in coastal research and study based on a literature review. Scientists have emphasized the use of GIS for prediction and impact on the marine environment. Spatial information has been obtained for the sustainable management of the coastal region encompassed by the sea. In the current condition of data acquisition, management, and analysis are the main required factors for rapid accuracy and economical solutions. A GIS application is helpful for assessing the future condition of the shoreline based on the past and present scenarios of any given region. Digital Shoreline Analysis System is an extension tool of ArcGIS and is formed by a statistical algorithm model. This chapter emphasizes the wide application of remote sensing, GIS, and DSAS tools for assessing the shoreline change rate as well as the zonation map construction by obtaining values from shoreline analysis. This chapter has explored the versatile use of GIS and the DSAS operating system for coastal research.

摘要
