Natural Gas Integration in Anode Baking: Achieving Cost Savings and Lower Emissions at INALUM
摘要
This chapter presents the successful transition from diesel fuel to natural gas (NG) in the anode baking furnaceAnode baking furnace at PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM). Executed between December 2022 and July 2023, the project involved a complete overhaul of the burner and auxiliary systems. As a result, INALUM achieved a 45% reduction in production costs, generating annual savings of IDR 47.17 billion and a return on investment (ROI) of 158.34% within 0.6 years. The quality of the baked anodes met all specifications for density, flexural strength, and reactivity. Additionally, SOx, HF, and dust emissions were reduced by over 80%, significantly improving environmental performance. This conversion demonstrates a viable and sustainable approach for aluminum smelting facilities.
