Chapter 17: Visibilising Boundary Work in Sustainability Research and Cooperation
摘要
Sustainability research often confronts us with ‘boundaries’—socially constructed divisions between disciplines, faculties, and institutions, locally and internationally. These boundaries shape how knowledge is produced and shared, both within academia and beyond. Yet sustainability compels us to navigate complex, interconnected realities, challenging these traditional categories and disciplines. This chapter explores academic networks and international collaboration as key dimensions of ‘boundary work’, emphasising the often invisible role of ‘boundary workers’ in shaping knowledge and institutions vis-à-vis societal changes. Additionally, this chapter concludes this volume by reflecting on the collaborative process behind it—work defined by crossing boundaries. Ultimately, the authors underscore how ‘boundary work’ can open academia to new ways of thinking and connecting, and hope that this will inspire innovative academic management and collaboration.
