The Relevance of the Materiality of the Printed Book in the Context of the Digital Age: Dialogues on Materiality
摘要
In the context of the digital age, this research seeks to understand the relevance of the continued existence of the printed book by analyzing the importance of its materiality in shaping the reading experience. Through a theoretical and exploratory approach, complemented by focus group sessions, the study highlights how the material attributes of the printed book (such as visual elements, paper, size, color, and binding) contribute to creating emotional and sensory reactions that facilitate information retention. The article argues that the value of the printed book lies not only in the nostalgia it evokes, but also in the material qualities that make it a cultural, emotional and communicative object. The research reinforces the role of the designer as a mediator between form and content, emphasizing materiality as an essential narrative element. The persistence of the printed book is not defined by its opposition to the digital, but rather by its ability to coexist as an emotional, sensory, and cultural object, capable of offering unique and meaningful experiences within the contemporary reading landscape.
