Amplified Design Education Model, A Processual Methodology. Case Study: Portuguese Revolution Commemorative Exhibition “Dão-nos um Lírio e um Canivete”
摘要
This paper presents and explores a processual and interdisciplinary pedagogical methodology developed within the framework of a commemorative exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese April Revolution. Centred on the values of democracy, freedom, and civic participation, the project engaged students from technical short-cycle courses in the co-creation of a public artistic intervention with strong political and symbolic significance. The main outcome of this research is the Amplified Design Education (ADE) model—a replicable and integrative framework that combines Project-Based Learning (PBL), Practice-Led Research (PLR), and Practice-Based Research (PBR). The ADE model aims to foster critical thinking, historical awareness, and active citizenship through artistic and collaborative learning practices. It unfolds across ten iterative phases—from institutional proposal and collaborative planning to site-specific intervention and community engagement through open classes. The scope of the model was examined through qualitative methods, including interviews and participant observation, which highlighted the transformative potential of situated artistic practice within design education. While context-specific, the model demonstrates strong relevance for interdisciplinary and civic-oriented educational practices, particularly within the fields of visual arts and design.
