The grain refinement efficiency of standard 5Ti-0.2B grain refiners from two producers was compared with the high efficiency Optifine 5Ti-1B grain refiner and a newly developed Optifine 5/0.2 grain refiner. Grain refinement tests were performed in an AA1070 alloy. The tests show that the high efficiency Optifine grain refiners can be added at a 40–90% lower addition rate. This will have a positive effect on the qualityQuality of the final product.
